One of the sinks at work had this weird film on it, and I would half-heartedly try to give it a quick wipe and clean it every now and then.

I assumed it was due to minerals or hard water or some strange issue with the surface of the sink.

And then one day I scrubbed the hell out of it with bleach and a rag, and the sink was sparkling clean again!

The next day a tea-loving coworker said "Hey, did you clean the tea stains off the sink? I've been meaning to do that..."

Sigh...
