NASA has a range of mission classes, from flagships to Discovery-class programs. Now, NASA has announced a new category: Probe Explorers. These will fill the gap between the large flagship and smaller-scale missions. As part of this announcement, the agency also revealed two mission proposals they're evaluating: the Advanced X-Ray Imaging Satellite and the Probe Far-Infrared Mission for Astrophysics. Both missions will receive $5 million for a 12-month concept study.
