"you can't provide support at scale because it's a social engineering attack vector". This doesn't seem prima facie absurd because telecoms do this and it's supposedly quite easy to just steal someone's phone number and use that to steal people's FB or other accounts.

But at the same time, online brokerages and banks are much higher value targets than FB accounts and yet, people permanently losing their FB account to "hackers" seems to happen at a higher than losing bank/brokerage accounts.
