If given the choice between HIV and asymptomatic Covid, I would choose HIV. Just because HIV is a lentivitus and SARS-CoV-2 is a coronavirus doesn't mean that they don't aggravate the immune system in a similar manner. Most with HIV that adhere to their antiviral therapies retain or recover immune function. We have no such meds with PCoVs, and there's a chance that we never will.
