Back in the 80s and 90s it never really bothered me that I had to include a little bit of code to determine what the terminators were (or convert them, if necessary).
Maybe it WILL be going on generations from now. I suppose that's a statement on the uneven evolution of technology.
But I don't want to revisit the backwards compatibility debate too much. It's a thing some of us deal with, and something no one else really understands or cares about (until they can't read some old media or files).
