This toot expresses a common take among capitalism's defenders, but it's based on a fundamental misunderstanding of how science works. Science is fundamentally anarchist. Scientists work on what interests them and to some degree on what gets funded. They agree on scientific principles and validity through discussion leading to consensus. No outside parties are in charge of science. It's self-regulating -- anarchist.

Capitalists can't imprison scientists if they don't do what they're told. They can't force them to toe a party line. That leads to bad science. Even the state capitalists who ran the USSR were forced by the very nature of science to accept this. The only control capitalism has on science is through funding, and even that is pretty weak, but it's enough to create a lot of capitalism-serving science. Science is hobbled by capitalism, not nourished.

I don't know if we'll see more or less science when capitalism is destroyed but I have no doubt we'll see better science, more science directed toward meeting human needs. Once science is no longer funded by the coercive capitalist exploitation money firehose it'll have to be funded voluntarily, and people will only fund what matters to them -- human-serving things. Science will flourish in an anarchist society.
