Corfiot on Nostr: If a non-immigrant throws a molotov and burns down said restaurant, what does the law ...

If a non-immigrant throws a molotov and burns down said restaurant, what does the law say? If it says 'jailtime', that's not fair on the part of the restaurant owner, either, is it? If it says "fine", is that better? What if the criminal can't pay? If it says "death penalty", is that fair for the restaurant owner? They'll never get their money back then, either. Should the state reimburse and levy a debt on the criminal somehow (e.g. forced work?)

So I can indeed sympathize that it's not "just property" but it is still property in the class of crime. If in the restaurant someone was burnt alive, it would be "murder". Again, anyone who had someone close to them murdered wants the other person DEAD (I know I would), but the law does not guarantee that. "Unfair", again.

In short, this is rule of law.

I'm no law expert, I'm sure law makers and lawyers and such have ways to balance damage and restitution for the individual and the group and can come up with other ways than "victim decides" and "kill them all". However, a sincere effort should be made to find a solution to these things and I don't see it happening. I see only grandstanding, mostly from the left.

No politician has the balls to do this in peacetime, however. They want to keep the left AND right vote. You institute force labor camps, the left shouts GULAGS! You institute "polite" deportation, the right shouts "YOURE LETTING THEM OFF EASY". So, they do nothing and shit like these riots happens. Maybe they even want this, so they can justify garnering more power to themselves under a state-of-emergency. Anyway.

I think for now we can deal with immigrants burning restaurants as what the law says for everyone else, with minor tweaks that can be put in an immigration policy.

For example, since you maybe don't want immigrant criminals to be held in your jails and fed/clothed for years, there isn't much you can do other than send them home, kill them or maybe get them to do forced labor instead, as a way to at least pay back into the society if not that particular restaurant owner. Sending them home seems like it's not justice, I agree. If however you do this systematically for every criminal immigrant, you can deter others from coming, which is an overall good result, if you are attracting immigrants that can't integrate.
