The thing about military history and the nature of power is that you don't get the benefit of a weapon/technology advantage, socially or economically, without demonstrating your power. This typically involves bloodshed. It may yet require that, as far as history tells us. If you're not willing to suffer the consequences of violence to defend yourself, you will be conquered.
