photo storage and backup service pricing tiers are insane. the basic tier is always priced cheaply, but just one tier up becomes way too expensive. i currently use icloud+, and the basic tier gives me 50 gb for $0.99/month. but the next tier, 200 gb, costs $2.99/month.
i wanted to try out ente, but their 50 gb plan costs $2.34, and 200 gb is even more expensive. i’m considering moving to immich, a self-hosted option that's better for privacy and, of course, free. but i’m worried about managing backups.
