Well, that sucks. I had naively thought that my work (from home) Chromebox was exhibiting sluggishness (no longer being sufficient for hardware envelope and screen tearing and severe input lag) due to thermal stepping.
I dismantled and cleaned it (not the first time) but replaced the original gummed thermal paste. No dice. Borderline-unusable after just two years of life and a small, dense hunk of e-waste.
