That’s a pretty bad article tbh.

I know people at CS, it’s clearly a catastrophe for them but the rollback will for the most part be automatic - people are spreading FUD that every single machine has to be manually done which isn’t true. It depends on the connectivity but it’s a subset that will be a pain to handle, not every windows machine with their sensor.

The guy talks about software companies paying a price for faulty products.. yeah they have to literally pay a price here. They have contracted SLAs they’ll be in breach of. They’re going to have mandatory reporting requirements galore. They had $20 Billion wiped off the stock immediately. Guarantee a bunch of people are getting fired and they’re going to be in damage control for weeks giving free services to help remediate customers and then they’re going to have to deal with Gov and Defense and Emergency Services etc on top of all that and have plans to avoid this happening again.

I love being around nostr and bitcoin stuff where it’s all open source and “don’t trust, verify” because you don’t see issues like this which come with heavy centralisation and proprietary products.

But the public will forget this in a few days, it’s not going to have a lasting impact. It will hurt CS though, should never have been possible to have such a widespread fuckup.
