It gets caught on those, so they are forced to swallow the whole thing, which often looks like they are eating vigorously even though they don’t want to and might be trying to get it out of their mouths by just eating it. This is why string is deadly to cats— they cannot spit stuff out. They swallow string and it becomes like a wire saw in their GI tract.
