I spent two years reading nauseatingly dry shit until my
eyes bled, but on purpose. I was researching a book about the epidemic of mental illness in America, and how all the things accept as "normal" (organized religion, child abuse, capitalism, etc) are making us all collectively ill.
A girl who proofreads academic articles for a living said it was the most well-researched book she has ever read.
But yeah, I wrote it in a style that was entertaining, funny, and shocking.
Basically, I read all the boring shit, so the reader doesn't have to.
(The book isn't available right now, it's being edited for a third edition.)
