One of the more depressing things I learned recently about the Mandarin language news in my home country (Singapore):

For years I wondered where the recent extreme pro-CCP slant came from. Weird position to take, for a sovereign nation trying to fend off future accusations of actually belonging to China. (It’s already happening)

I read that, because so few people read the news in Mandarin now, only people in China do; so they take that weird stance. Traitors.
