A periodic reminder that affinity fraud can happen anywhere, even on Mastodon. Just because someone seems like they share your beliefs and is super friendly does not mean that you should automatically trust them, especially if you don't know what is behind that online persona.

If someone here asks you for money, make sure to perform the same degree of due diligence that you would perform for a complete stranger.

"But Mastodon" is not a reason to let your guard down.
