I agree that Christian fascists have been feeling emboldened these last few years, but when has this country not been led by the Christian right? Was it a bunch of leftists running the show during the Jim Crow era? Was it the communists who rounded up indigenous children and put them in residential schools to beat their culture out of them? Decade after decade, this nation's history is dominated by Christian extremists doing absolutely horrible shit, but now it's serious?

It is serious, but it's always been serious. It was serious when they killed Michael Brown. It was serious when they killed Martin Luther King. It's been serious for as long as things have been serious, and for the US, that goes back to this nation's original sins: slavery and genocide.
