SHEIN is also popular in Europe now.

Chinese cross-border e-commerce company SHEIN has risen rapidly but remains controversial. BBC today revealed that workers in SHEIN's Guangzhou supply chain garment workshops work approximately 75 hours per week, violating Chinese labor laws.

Reporters visited 10 factories in the so-called "SHEIN village" and interviewed over 20 workers. Most workers indicated they only get one day off per month, typically working from 8 AM to 10 PM. Even after 10 PM, sewing machines and people bending over them haven't stopped, as more fabric arrives in fully loaded trucks.

One worker told BBC: "If there are 31 days in a month, I work 31 days."

A female worker from Jiangxi said wages are calculated per piece, earning 1 to 2 yuan per T-shirt. She usually works 10 to 12 hours daily, producing about 12 pieces per hour.

The report suggests SHEIN's success lies in affordable prices and ample inventory, noting that their average price in the UK is £8 (approximately 71 yuan) or less, with frequent discounts and promotions.

While SHEIN's products are highly price-competitive, they face recurring controversies, including product safety concerns.

In 2022, Greenpeace Germany initiated a research investigation, purchasing dozens of men's, women's, children's clothing and shoes from SHEIN's websites across various European countries. The samples were analyzed by independent research institutions. Results showed that 15% of the tested items contained harmful chemicals exceeding EU standards, with 32% containing concerning levels of hazardous substances.
