On this day in 1933, President FDR appointed Frances Perkins to serve as Labor Secretary making her the first woman to be appointed to a Presidential Cabinet.
Working with my grandmother Clara Beyer, Perkins would go on to craft and implement hallmarks of the New Deal: improving worker safety, abolishing child labor, securing minimum wages and establishing Social Security.
