#WritersCoffeeClub Ch 16 Nbr 20 — Is anyone getting a copy of your latest book for Christmas?
I'm in the process of building inventory. I have a short story I have been wanting to do a dramatic reading of before Christmas, but the audience (friends / sff fans / beta readers) for health reasons have been putting it off. It's a new chapter in my writing and I need reactions to somewhat more steamy content. I wanted to read it first to them, but since I promised a copy to the beta reader of my previous series, he may receive it first.
In the past, I only gave copies of books to relatives in previous generations. It's not that they'd think that because, for example, they helped manufacture a car that they'd have to give a car to their elders. There was no arguing with that old world attitude, however. I had to give. I couldn't expect them to go pay for something the kid did. I suppose there was always the sense that I ought start doing real work instead.
I'm the elder generation now.
Everyone else I asked to buy. My spouse had other goals in giving copies. In any case, when a book sells through a printing, it's a good thing.
