Institutional ownership of equities is somewhat of a misleading figure to look at, as a lot of the holdings are part of various ETFs (boring index funds etc).
This doesn't preclude the institutions from having undue influence of a company, however the raw numbers don't tell much beyond "Products like iShares Core MSCI International Developed Markets ETF are popular" (IDEV accounts for 4.1 million of Blackrock's Sony shares).
