Everything in the western world is wrapped in plastic, was mind boggling for us... now we are just used to it. The next thing was repairabilty... we still use eastern block appliances if we can, because they are repairable. On that note... 3d printing can be used for that too. I print a lot of replacement/repair parts for stuff we would throw away otherwise.
