Sofia (npub1qxx…u6la) i wouldn’t say current information about psychology is complete bullshit, as there are accurate and useful information about certain psychological conditions out there. a lot of individuals have been helped by available information about psychology, so it’s not wholly a net negative. it really depends on the subfield. there’s a lot more misinformation and lack of consensus from the psychology field surrounding subjects such as, for example, “paraphilias” and cluster-b personality disorders.

so yeah, current information about psychology can be accurate, and it isn’t always dumb to believe it especially if there is reasonable evidence to support it. but i feel like for topics such as pedophilia there is still a lot of misinformation surrounding it, which people should be wary of. for example, the DSM affirms pedophilia is a sexual orientation (good!) but also believes in the concept of “pedophilic disorder” (bad!). personally, some information from psychology researchers did greatly contribute to my support of pedophiles, and it did help me turn others into supporters as well.
