Atheism is its own punishment. It gives nothing and takes everything from the atheist, and no matter how well he rationalizes he will one day have to confront that fact.
One day, if you should live that long, you will be weak, old, and vulnerable. Will atheism deliver you from that sorry state? Will a lifetime of atheism reward you for your service? Will atheism give you any hope for the future?
Of course not. Even if it were true (an absurd notion anyway), it wouldn't be worth believing.
Imagine the atheist in a nursing home after being mistreated by his bitter nurse. What is he going to say, "at least I still have science?" Give me a break, it's a pathetic notion to hold.
