okay do I keep saying last post? yes

am I a filthy liar? yes

I've come across one of the actually interesting rhetorical bits in this book starting in the chapter "myth #2"

so here's the deal:

she argues that us transes and feminists are claiming that there can be zero differences in the brain between cis men and cis women thus, if you can find any differences, then biological determinism is correct, sex is binary, and she wins

but, like, I don't believe my soul is a separate thing from my body, connected at the pinneal gland

starting estrogen made me feel different (and much better! like cool water running over a burn that had been aching so long I didn't even understand it was there)

so obviously that would mean my brain looks different before and after estrogen

...because I feel different and that has to show up somewhere physically

is that evidence that the presence or absence of testosterone* changes fundamental personality traits, capabilities, or anything else?

well, no, it's fucking not

but that's how this kind of reasoning works "we can find marginal differences in amygdala sizes between cis men and cis women ergo patriarchy has a biological basis" without ever actually showing that the slight differences they can find fucking mean anything in practice

this is basically the same shell game that "race scientists" like to play and it's not a coincidence that they're often the same people

* side note: isn't it fucking fascinating that with these people it's always about testosterone not estrogen or progesterone that changes things, that testosterone is the prime mover for who we are it's almost like

....oh no it's judith butler with the steel chair again!
