My running theory is that these consultancies exist so that blame for evil decisions can be outsourced.

If your company's expansion of oil production and delay of any emissions reductions can be pinned on "following the advice given to us by business experts" then I guess that somehow makes it all okay?

It looks like outsourcing of blame for the C-suite and investors. What it amounts to is crimes against humanity through continued massive emissions.
