NASA Invites Media to View NOAA’s Newest Environmental Satellite

NASA will host a media availability to view NOAA’s (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s) Geostationary Operational Environmental Satellite U (GOES-U) spacecraft on June 6 at the Astrotech Space Operations payload processing facility in Titusville, Florida. The launch of GOES-U is scheduled for June 25, with a two-hour launch window opening at 5:16 p.m. EDT. The satellite is the fourth and final in the GOES-R Series and will continue weather observations and include a new compact coronagraph to detect and characterize coronal mass ejections. Media interested in attending the event must RSVP by May 29. The invitation is open to a limited number of media with no more than two requests per organization. Cleanroom guidelines must be followed, including wearing specific garments and avoiding certain products. The GOES-R series of satellites provide improved detection and observation of environmental phenomena, enhancing public safety and economic health. NASA and NOAA collaborate on missions to enhance understanding of Earth and its environment. The GOES-U spacecraft is the last in the series and is planned to operate into the 2030s. NOAA is working with NASA to develop the next generation of operational satellites in geostationary orbit called Geostationary Extended Observations (GeoXO). NASA will manage the development and launch of the GeoXO satellites for NOAA.
