I chose to be empowered on Nostr by making my own decisions on who and what subjects to mute, rather than expecting someone else to make that decision for me.

I chose not to offload my decision making to a platform that is then put under pressure and scrutiny to become the thought police. I don’t believe that is fair to either them or myself as a user.

While I may not agree with some topics on social media (or other media for that matter) I believe in everyone’s right to voice their own opinion. As I also believe in everyone’s right to peacefully protest.

If parents don’t consider their children are capable of dealing with the many and varied issues discussed on social media platforms then I recommend they parent their children and stop expecting Governments and Tech platforms to do it for them (and I’m commenting as an Australian where there is a push by parents for the Government to restrict access for under 16 year olds).

My only caveat would be related to CSAM and other types of Non consensual harm. This is something I do hope platforms and governments are working together to address.

In the main though if we truly want freedom then we need to step up and take responsibility for our own actions and start by making our own decisions on what content we wish to see.
