Thanks for this chart; I've seen it before and it also came to mind.

It is true that the Protestants/Evangelicals jumped out of the Roman Catholic Papists boat, though not out of the ark of salvation.

Christ is the ark of salvation. The church is His body and we various Christians are members of it. In this analogy, someone might be an arm (or part of an arm), or part of a leg, or some other part. Christ is the head, of course.

Another biblical analogy that Christ gave is that He is the vine and we His followers are branches. If you took that chart and turned it sideways, it would look more like a tree, which Jesus also said the kingdom of God is like, which started from a tiny seed and it grows into a large tree, and the birds make their nests in it's branches (Luke 13:18-19). Jesus is the root and the trunk/body of the tree, and us followers are various branches.

I consider myself "catholic" with a small "c" in the sense of the word that means "universal". I believe the body of Christ, the church, is comprised of believers in Christ throughout the world, in various fellowships, hence universal. But I am not a Roman Catholic, with a big "c", nor a papist. I agree that Christ alone is the head of the Church.

I consider myself "orthodox" with a little "o", in the sense that I believe in Christ and the teachings of His apostles, contained in the scriptures and articulated in the early creeds of the church. These are the correct doctrines, hence "orthodox". But I am not Eastern Orthodox with a big "o", as I do have some issues with their practices.

I usually say "Roman Catholic" rather than just "Catholic" and "Eastern Orthodox" rather than just "Orthodox" because all Christians should be catholic and orthodox. I suppose I could call myself an orthodox catholic 😄, but I do stem from the Protestant/Evangelical branch.

As is often attributed to Augustine: "In essentials, unity; in non-essentials, liberty; in all things, charity (love)." I believe the various branches of Christianity are united in the essentials, the main ones being Jesus is Lord and God has raised Him from the dead (Romans 10:9-10), but we need to show more liberty and charity to other Christians with whom we differ in non-essentials.

Anyway, just articulating some of my views on the various branches in the great tree that is Christianity. I hope it is edifying for some who took the time to read it.
