Trip up to Napier which happens to coincide with art deco weekend. Up to Taihape, then across on the Gentle Annie road. Mostly farmland, but some steep forested mountains too. Had a peek in the Esk Valley. Some deserted homes, piles of silt & wasteland that used to be orchards or vineyards, but otherwise green & pretty.
