Globalization Is Definitively Over And No Longer Viable In A Bipolar World
==========

Globalization is no longer viable in a bipolar world. Last week, the author had a disagreement with a former German economic minister who claimed that a new wave of globalization was about to start. However, the author argues that dependencies are shifting, and the US and China barely have any political and policy connections, making it impossible to enjoy globalization in a severely divided world. The author also mentions a paper by Prof Barry Eichengreen, who charts how trade and capital flows have changed in the context of globalization. The author adds that walls are going up in terms of the flow of people, tourism, education, ideas, and political and diplomatic discourse between nations. The author argues that globalization is a specific form of interconnectedness that is breaking down, starting with the fall of communism and likely dying with the snuffing out of Hong Kong's democracy in 2020. The author suggests that we accept that globalization has passed and start thinking about the future.
