I am not picking on frost specifically and have no idea how this cryptomagic works, just trying to ask practical questions.
Amethyst keeps DMs encrypted on disk and decrypts on restart, it could decrypt lazily or could maybe reencrypt with some local key, but more generally it prefers Amber offline signer which is faster on all fronts.
