I would happily use an open toolchain for Sentinel if one existed that actually used the hardware fully. I’m not a huge fan of proprietary software myself.

But I have a moderated stance: proprietary tools can be tolerated when no open equivalent is available, so long as the data files are open. Since the data files are plain text, I am satisfied with that for now.
