Poem by author Kenneth Edward Barnes:
“Condemned”
Lord, I don’t have a name, but you know me.
I cannot speak or even hear.
And my eyes I cannot open,
but my heart is so full of fear.
For tomorrow, I shall be destroyed
and they don’t even know who I am.
It seems Lord that you had the same problem,
for you too were also condemned.
In your wisdom, you have been here;
Lord, you know what everyone has been through.
So please remember that I have existed,
because no one will know but you.
My mother shall never see me,
never a smile on my face.
I wonder; will she ever miss me?
Will another ever take my place?
Lord, I’m sorry I never got to know you.
I’ll never get to laugh or to play.
I’ll never get to see my brothers;
I won’t even learn how to pray.
And Lord, I wish tomorrow would never get here,
because I cannot scream or even cry.
But I’ll feel the pain just as you did;
Lord you know how it feels to die.
