Yesterday I asked my 5 year old son what he wanted to be when he grew up. I realized immediately after asking that whatever he said might not be a job in 15 years. In fact, it probably won't be. Then I thought about what society will look like in 15 years on the trajectory that we're on - it doesn't look good.

A question that, I assume, used to be fun for parents to ask their kids just made me anxious and sad. I just want my kids to have a good life - better than mine. And I don't see many paths forward where we don't completely fuck up civilization in the medium to long term. Maybe even the short term.

AI has me thinking about this a lot lately, but that's just one of the risks that we face.

I'm sympathetic to the Pinkeresque argument that "never has it been better for people than it is right now." Fine. But the number of "multiply by zero" risks seems to be increasing. Doesn't matter how big the number is if you multiply it by zero.
