While taking pictures of the striking 'Torch Monument', the sky turned darker and darker. We started the search for a shelter or a roof to pitch the tent for the upcoming stormy evening, but we couldn't find anything. So we decided to set up the tent next to some trees that seemed to provide a bit of shelter from the wind. As soon as the tent was fixed with some extra pegs, it started to rain. For around an hour, a massive storm rushed over our heads. The sky had this yellow-grey light that normally indicates hail, but luckily we only faced heavy rain and storm, and even from this, we were quite well sheltered by the trees next to us. The rest of the night was very quiet, and we slept really well. The next day, we took it easy, enjoyed the quiet camp spot with coffee and breakfast. Later, we pedaled on through the amazing woods, where we suddenly met the cute fire salamander and passed through the touristy crowded 'Shipka Pass'. After a fantastic, very long downhill stretch, we reached Gabrovo, where we held our midday break. In the evening, already late, we finally found a very unused path where we could pitch the tent and again had an encounter with a special cute species. That night, it rained a little bit, but the next morning, as soon as we sat in the saddle again, it started to pour down. Within minutes, everything not waterproof or covered was soaked... It had been a long time since we had to pedal in the rain. 😉
