I've noticed that the artists with strange traits in their art tend to be fags, and so this thread's just a small "honest" feelings and opinions.
I personally don't ever really voice this, because sometimes it's an artist experimenting with something new, still learning, etc etc.
Also, because I'm an artist, I don't want to judge and snuff out talent just because my tastes don't find someone's work good.
That being said, I can't guarantee a detailed explanation for everything I think is "off" about someone's art.
I could make a bunch of theories and guesses, but it's rather irrelevant if my taste in art isn't actually as predictive in the faggotry in an artist, and even if truly predictive, it numbers to a bunch of things.
I'm not really targeting "bad" or "disgusting" art, but art that's "off" in some way.
For example, Sydus' artstyle feels off, honestly the eyes and mouth is off-putting for some reason. I guess it's the lips.
Nyantcha's artstyle, somewhat the same, like the lips. I'm pretty sure aside from the blacked fetish, this artist has been caught fagging out before, but I don't remember what about, since their artstyle wasn't my interest.
Those two artists are the first two that come to mind that're notable within the anime and artist communities, but my predictive tastes don't say much if I don't mention someone who hasn't done anything (or that I know of beyond their art) whose artstyle I find off.
While trying to find examples, I stumbled across the artist "blushedpixie" whose art feels slightly off. The head shape and facial proportions are the main tells, but the lips are also apart of it.
Going through all the posts on gel looking for artstyles that feel off, vizaz feels off. Again, for some reasons, the lips are probably one of the common tells that kinda make my dick limp, but her anatomy and style just feel... probably done for the trend of old anime aesthetic, and the artist's tastes are probably off if that's how they draw thighs, knees, and legs. The other works they've made feels like it's trying to, but very much so failing to emulate some kind of shoujo anime, and I have a gut feeling that it's trying to emulate a "mature" look at the cost of cuteness. I might just be confusing my inability to find sufficient beauty in the work with something genuinely off-putting, but for the sake of honesty, may as well mention it; it's good art, but not the type of thing I'd be into.
Honestly, may as well say that most "retro-anime" aesthetics are probably done because "muh animeh back den wuzn't gooner shet" rather than for genuine love of the anime or the style, and feels like a tell for me. It's not necessarily bad, but not only is it not my taste, but given what anime politics is going on, I'm probably right about why people like it.
Nayt Layt's consistency is very admirable, but the nose is tumblr-esque and I don't like it. The eyes also don't do it for me. Character choices are respectable, but Sydus is fagging out in spite of that, so guess I'll be honest and hurtful and say what I think. It's good art, but not something I'm turned on by once you click on the thumbnail and zoom into the details.
There's a hundred different reasons why an artist might have an off-putting work, so generally consistency is what I kinda feel for.
And honestly, no idea if I actually have good predictive power, or if it's just one of those "an average person can only tell an artist is probably a fag 5%, but I somehow can tell 15% of the time" (3x better, but still high error)
Also doesn't say shit about the people with artstyles I do like that turn out bad. Other than it being a fuckin' pain.
