I dunno. Until the entire world becomes appropriately civilized, borders are necessary for maintaining an orderly and functional society.

I'm generally libertarian-minded, but reality is a bitch and often invalidates otherwise sound theoretical principles.

I say this as someone personally, negatively impacted by the limitations of borders and citizenship.

Japan is an awesome country, and their enviable maintenance of civility and culture are directly attributable to their hermetically-sealed borders and strict immigration controls.

Laws are also necessary for similar reasons. A society without generally-agreed upon, basic laws would be chaotic and violent. There would still be one effective law: might makes right. Warlords and cartels would flourish, just as we see in Mexico and some other SA countries.

In my opinion, it's all about finding the right balance between fascism and anarchy, and minimizing corruption.

Agree on the taxes though. They're blatantly unconstitutional in the US. But anyone who challenges that is made an example of, and pays a severe price.

Citizenship should also be voluntary. Id like to see more anarchic zones like Freetown Christiania near Copenhagen in more countries.

Highly recommend that place, BTW. It's a ibertarian paradise. There's similar freedom zones scattered around the globe, even in California.
