It put me in mind of the storyline of "Enola" by Alastair Reynolds, but the tone is much more accessible and doesn't delve too much into trying to over-explain speculative technologies (as Reynolds is wont to do). The language is interesting and descriptive, yet pleasantly uncomplicated. I loved the ending (without giving too much away about the plot line) where you're left wondering if the narrator is the last to work out how to "get out" after everyone else has stopped communicating with them. Packs in a lot of atmosphere for a short story.
