Just because something is a bad idea and essentially valueless doesn't mean it isn't a highly profitable investment, at least on a short enough timescale. For my first examples I take gold, currency, AI and housing. I fully expect that one day each bubble will burst, though housing will require legal reform to wipe out its rental value and gold would take a massive cultural shift. Meanwhile some people will get very rich.
