I doubt that the problem with trades training is that young people are discouraged from doing it, despite the high wages tradies can make and their generally positive image.
The problem is the opposite: people are so enamoured of apprenticeships that they don't want to recognise that this model of training no longer works well.
Big government employers of apprentices no longer exist and changes in the nature of work make it less appealing for private tradies to take on apprentices.
Almost zero progress on gender bias, which further restricts the potential supply of tradies.
