first off, the commonwealth isn't a military organization, in fact it doesnt confer any mutual obligations to member states at all. so far as defences go, it's less politically useful than UN membership, which is pretty well useless
second off, even putting that aside, having a monarchy is not a requirement of commonwealth membership. many countries, including e.g. india, are not monarchies but are in the commonwealth
and thirdly, our monarchy doesn't even formally connect us to the other commonwealth countries which do have monarchies. even if the king did have powers, the canadian crown is a completely separate and distinct institution from the british crown or australian crown, for example; obviously the reason we have it is because of britain, but post-sovereignty, they're legally distinct. it's not a british concern if there's a threat to the sovereignty of the canadian monarchy, because even if we have the same king, we have different kingships
