hmmm... maybe my scorn for MS Office is misplaced? was it Mail.app not dealing with big things well?
I randomly went to the Connection Doctor window in Mail.app, turned on the activity log and clicked "show logs".
It brought me to the log folder which has 200MB-1GB log files...
and one that was OVER 25GB!
I deleted it!
We'll see if Mail.app and Exchange are better now, but if you're ever looking for a quick space recovery. Look for those log files! What a waste.
