Here in America the government routinely orders the mass slaughter of chickens to 'prevent spread of bird flu.' I think the reality is that they are doing it to keep the price of meat and eggs elevated so that the poor can't save any money and so that select producers can pad profits from the elevated prices.

The government 'detects' flu virus in birds then the birds are exterminated. Then the price of eggs doubles or triples. How convenient.
