An older gentleman I know had worked on air at 270ft. Too spaced on nitrogen narcosis to know which way was up, and had to write what he was supposed to be doing on his arm because he'd forget every thirty seconds.
So not trivial to maintain even if you can sort out the corrosion, biofouling and Chinese anchor problems.
But otherwise, yes, the density and consistency of ocean currents is attractive.
