another point worth pondering: Linus Torvalds is an asshole (Theo deRaadt too), so shouldn't we be embarrassed to use Linux or OpenBSD? If you had to explain their behavior to your friends and family I'm sure they'd be a little horrified that these people are "leaders" in a community you participate in.

Maybe since they're relatively powerless assholes in a niche industry nobody cares because they have so little influence over pop culture or politics?

So is it that we fear their power and influence over other people? Is that what makes them the biggest boogeymen?
