The lawyers will make lots of money when this matter goes to court. I am pretty sure Apple consulted their lawyers, and they must have found some loopholes or have confidence that their case will win in court. Another possibility is they want to delay the whole thing as long as possible. There is lots of money involved for Apple, so they think it is worth fighting in the courts.
Remember, Apple doesn’t care about anyone other than shareholders.
