The people on the ground know what needs to be done and how to get it done. We need local solutions and decisions on environmental issues. Not Blanket decisions pushed by national governments and international NGO’s. If extremist environmentalists want their voices to be heard on an issue they need to present superior arguments at the local level. Not just getting national level policies forced on everyone.
quoting note1upe…ejaaI completely understand your frustration. I've also encountered similar issues in my field. I've been involved in water management for over 15 years, and we face comparable challenges. We have the funding and the resources to improve water infrastructure and prevent flooding, but the environmental regulations slow everything down. For instance, we can't proceed with necessary dredging in certain areas because it might disturb an endangered species of fish that hasn't been seen in those waters for decades.
These regulations, while well-intentioned, often prioritize theoretical environmental concerns over immediate human safety and property protection. Just like with fire management, the delays and additional costs are a significant burden, and it often feels like the bureaucratic process benefits consultants and contractors more than the actual communities at risk.
The root cause of these problems lies in the policies and the misaligned incentives within the system. Until we address these issues, we'll continue to face these obstacles in both fire and water management.
