LostInCalifornia on Nostr: This is a very important point that keeps getting lost in all the bullshit about the ...

This is a very important point that keeps getting lost in all the bullshit about the single reservoir that was being repaired --- all the other reservoirs were full. The fires did not spread because of lack of water. There was plenty of water.

There was a lack of water pressure from using the city fire hydrants. Urban hydrants are made for fighting smaller fires -- salt water in those hydrants would not have made a difference.

The primary method of fighting a large wildfire is the ability to put water dropping helicopters and airplanes in the air. That was impossible during the first 2 days because the winds were too strong.

In addition, there are problems with salt water. If they dumped salt water on that terrain, the hills would become permanently barren and we'd get mudslides every rain.

So the answer is no, they will not being retooling for salt water. We also will not be vaccuming the forests, FYI.
