Andrew (nprofile…f8nd) It's not wrong, nor right. It depends how you interpret the meaning of the phrase.

You can be living in a moment when you experienced a huge loss, for example, when a beloved family member of yours die. You can either feel a physical pain (i.e. your chest hurts because you're suffering a nervous breakdown) or a metaphoric pain (i.e. you're hurt because that family member was really important in your life).

But you can choose whether you want or not to suffer with those thoughts, alas, you judge that moment, that experience, and opt-in or out on the suffering derived of the thoughts. In this example, you cannot control the death of that family member, therefore you can experience some for of pain, but you won't suffer because of the death of the person itself, but how you thing about the situation itself.

I guess it depends on how you interpret the concept of pain vs. suffering, and in the situation and context you apply those terms.
