Main problem with this theory: Any spacefaring civilization is almost guaranteed to build a Dyson Sphere at some point, making them visible (the star would redshift). They provide so much power that it's irresistible, and would make them untouchable to a civilization that refused it in order to hide. It's the space age equivalent of ICBMs.
